Happy Silly Season!
As my holidays are rapidly disappearing, I guess I need to get my arse in gear and do some catching up. I still have a ton of stuff from October to get to, but I thought I'd get up to date to now for now. So, without further ado, I'll get straight to the Xmas illuminations at Meieki (Nagoya Station) that Midori and I went to on Xmas Eve. Apparently, last year they wanted to tone down the illuminations and save some money, but they got so many complaints that they really went nuts this year.

The view from the 15th floor, looking east up Sakuradori. If you look carefully, above the "go" of the Dainagoya Building on the left, is a fuzzy greenish-white smudge which is really Nagoya Castle.
The holidays have been pretty low-key - a good few quiet nights in, punctuated by a few big nights out - one of which was New Year's Eve. We had our first snow of the season on that day, but it didn't stay, although it's been so cold that I'm sure we'll get some that will soon. Also, with all the big nights out, and having time off from work, my sleep cycle has crept into vampire time, so I'll have to work on seeing the sun again soon, or my first day back at work will clearly show my undead nature. In any case, New Year's started off with a few friends at my favourite Mexican restaurant/bar, Desperados, where we saw out the countdown...

...and together with Rudy and Takako, the couple who run Desperados, we went to Ousu Kannon temple for hatsumode, the New Year's festival.

Of course, what is any festival without yatai, selling the regular assortment of takoyaki, pork cutlet on a stick, yakisoba, BBQ'd corn on the cob, etc., etc. - this time supplemented with warm sake.

All followed, of course, by a spot of karaoke until the trains started running again. And a good time was had by all...
